The role of an athletic trainer (AT) is to provide healthcare for life and sport, as stated by the National Athletic Training Association (NATA). ATs can work in many settings ranging from public and private schools, colleges and universities, professional and Olympic sports to physician offices, rural hospitals, and many facets of the military. Athletic trainers practice under six domains which are injury prevention and wellness protection; clinical evaluation and diagnosis; immediate and emergency care; treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning; organizational and professional health and wellbeing; and professional responsibility. When becoming a Professional Yoga Therapist (PYT) who practices medical therapeutic yoga (MTY) as an AT there are numerous benefits for your athletes/patients/clients and for yourself as a health care professional in each of these domains.Topics covered range from the yogic biopsychosocial model; utilizing MTY in evaluation, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of injuries; and stress management for athletes and ATs.

This project has helped me organize how useful the certification has been for me and how useful it can be for other athletic trainers (ATs). With there being so many areas that ATs can practice in, each will take away a different component; however, I tried to focus on the pieces that are most applicable across all settings and that are most important to me. Reading Ginger's textbook was my biggest inspiration and gave me great focus. With the Medical Therapeutic Yoga textbook being so clearly written and organized, it motivated me to more directly write about how to apply MTY in Athletic Training. Most importantly, this project has helped me organize all of my PYT notes and provided me renewed stimulation for my own work and practice.
