Medical Therapeutic Yoga Community Projects
PYT Level I Class

MS, PT, PYT
2015
An inservice was provided to 4 physical therapists. In addition, a PYT level I class: one day/week x 10 weeks was provided. There were 2 participants in the class. The class was held at Beth David Synagogue, Greenville, NC
Here are my reflections about the inservice. The inservice which was given to a small group of physical therapists(4) served three purposes for me.
1) It was the first opportunity I have had to create a powerpoint and in so doing, helped me improve my computer skills.
2) It gave me the chance to present in front of my colleagues. Teaching other professionals about the PYT approach in addition to providing a mini practice incorporating the precepts proved to be an invaluable experience.
3) The inservice was beneficial as a first step to actually teaching a class of yoga students. That came next! Here are my reflections about the PYT Level I community class that I taught. Although I could have encouraged more participants to join this free class, I knew that I would be most effective with a smaller group(2) with whom I could be hands-on. I could also focus specifically on how each person learned best and on accommodating for this whenever possible. I have begun to fine tune my observational skills and increase my awareness of effective language and communication with students. (Continued in file)
