PYTI – In a student’s words, is the “Gold Standard”

Professional Yoga Therapy Institute is honored to help students and graduates transform much of their lives. From improving their own yoga practice to teaching others and even transitioning to a cash-based medical practice, we love helping our medical community learn and improve. A few of our students even started a practice dedicated to using Medical Therapeutic Yoga. The following post comes from one of those students.
Katie Estridge, PT, MPT, PYT-C, started Queen City Professional Yoga Therapy based on her own knowledge and experience as a physical therapist as well as what she learned through PYTI. Her journey through the Professional Yoga Therapist certification program reflects that of many students and graduates. We applaud her bravery and willingness to break away from the standard biomedical model. Learn more about Katie and her practice here.
Ginger’s courses have tremendously improved not only my professional life but my personal life as well. I came to module 8 in the spring of this year with a 14 year long yoga practice, heavy in the “stretching” and aerobic aspect but lacking in stability. Applying the biopsychosocial model to my life has improved my aches and pains from motherhood and a career in physical therapy.
What I love about Ginger’s program is the fact that everything is backed up by a huge amount of evidence based practice. It just makes so much sense to me. At module 14 this year I felt like a kid in a candy store just soaking it all in, eager to learn more. I haven’t been this excited about learning in quite some time. I feel a renewed sense of passion for my career and I can genuinely say that work doesn’t feel like “work” to me anymore. I will be a little sad when module 15 is over for me a in few weeks because I enjoyed the weeks in emerald isle so much. It is such a supportive environment.
I have taken Ginger’s teachings and turned it into a successful cash based PYT practice. I feel that she gave me the confidence and knowledge to transition my career to a more integrative path.
Ginger’s program is the gold standard for yoga for healthcare professionals. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in using yoga in their healthcare profession. I feel tremendous gratitude to Ginger for all she does.

We at Professional Yoga Therapy Institute want to encourage our students and graduates to see themselves in this story. The medical system today needs help and all of us have the ability to transform it. Change starts small, within individuals. Together, when we allow ourselves to operate in a manner that serves those around us in the best way possible, we can make our world better.
If you want to make the leap to better healthcare, please know that we want to provide the tools for you to do so. Whether you are just starting your Professional Yoga Therapist certification or have been with us for years, you have a family here and we want to see you succeed. You can find resources for colleagues, patients, and self practice on our Business Practice Tools page. We also know that sometimes encouragement is the biggest need. If you ever want a pep-talk or just some words of hope, feel free to email me at naomi@professionalyogatherapy.org. Making our PYTI family happy is my favorite part of the job!
